Gold Mask

Dimensions: Length 20.5 cm, width 10.4 cm, height 10.7 cm, thickness 0.08 cm.
Crafted in gold, the three-dimensional mask was shaped by hammering over a mold, with its eyes, nose, mouth, and ears created through precise cutting. The design spans from the forehead down to the jawline. The square-shaped face features a flat forehead and slightly raised eyebrows that widen at the center and taper at the ends, resembling a crescent moon. Its eye sockets are large and a diamond-shaped eyes are hollow-out with curved upper lids and deeply set lower lids. The high straight nose bridge and its nose wings connect smoothly to the cheekbones, while the slightly parted lips form a narrow rectangular opening with a subtle smile. The outward-curving ears widen at the top and narrow downward, with concave cochlea and pierced earlobes. The strong jawline completes the full-faced structure, conveying solemn dignity through its realistic style. The outer surface shines with polishing, while the inner side remains a coarse texture. As a cultural treasure, this gold mask holds great historical, artistic, and scientific value, serving as crucial physical evidence for studying the ancient Shu civilization in the Chengdu region, the goldworking craftsmanship, bronze civilization in their culture, as well as the  cultural exchanges between the Sichuan Basin and external territories during the Shang-Zhou dynasties.
