Bronze Mask with Protruding Eyes


  Length: 77.4 cm, width: 55 cm, height: 82.5 cm, mask height: 31.5cm, weight: 17 kg. Unearthed from Pit No. 2 at Sanxingdui, it features a rectangular beast-like face, large, angular ears extending outward, long, inverted V-shaped blade-like eyebrows, protruding "chen" (臣)-shaped eyes, a hooked nose, a wide slightly open mouth with a protruding tongue, and a square jaw with a forward-extending lower edge. At the center of the forehead, there is an additional ornament installed using a supplementary casting technique.This forehead ornament is in the shape of a dragon, with outward-curving horns and a tail that curls upward. The mask is further adorned with painted details, including blackened eyebrows and vermilion lips.
